Put the Tip to Use: Bathrooms
#1
[Image: putthetip-bathrooms.gif]

Everyone has a space that just seems, to them, to be a little more difficult to decorate than others. One of those spaces is the bathroom. How on earth can you dress up a room that is dedicated to the *cough* unmentionables of daily life? What's next after placing the shower/bath, toilet and sink anyway?

Well the designer in you has some help from your fellow sim designers here at Living Sims. We've gathered some fabulous tips from forum memebers on how to best go about designing a utilitarian but attractive bathroom. So, join the challenge and put those tips to work!

Rules:
  • Pick 1-3 tips and put them to use in a bathroom. Please state which tip you used.
  • Show us 4-10 pictures of the room. Please include an overview.
  • Have fun!

We will feature the best/most interesting rooms in issue 22.

This challenge will be closed: 24. April

The Tips
  1. Think of bathrooms as real rooms, not as something that only needs to have a function. Add some nice wood, a plant or to and all the little bathroom clutter that makes a bathroom look like a real bathroom instead of a hotel one.
  2. Try adding large mirrors to create the illusion of a larger room.
  3. Add things that make the bathroom feel luxurious, like candles, incense (great if you have WA), etc.
  4. Experimenting with colour in bathrooms: all cream with punches of deep red, or darker brown woods and mossy greens with cream accents...
  5. Try getting outside the "tile" box. As in, the thought that tile must line the walls. Try tile behind the bathtub only and wood panelling elsewhere, or paint or something.
  6. Spice up one wall with all windows and add some good blinds for privacy
  7. Try placing the tub in the middle of the floor and then working around it.
  8. Don't be afraid of color- maybe pick one that you never use and just go with it!
  9. I find using windows within bathrooms as dividers, works fairly well.
  10. Next to the bath you could try to put a coffee table with towels, shampoos and sponges and why not a jar?
  11. When I have a bigger bathroom, I usualy build a half wall in the middle of the room, put columns on both ends (off the grid) this works as a frame. put sinks on both sides of the half wall or a sink and a toilet on the other. And put a mirror (wide enough to touch both columns) above the sink.
I hang towels on the columns and put handsoap or/and candles on the top of the half wall.
  12. Placing sinks on counters, and make these matching the walls, it gives a clean finish and lots of space for clutter.
  13. For big bathrooms it's nice to build a large 4x4 class cabin for the shower, using walls and windows.

Twi that is pretty spectacular! I really love the colours! It also looks like you got a very very interesting layout in there. In truth a luxurious and grand bathroom
